Our Mission
Rockland Friends of Clearwater
is a local chapter of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. Formed in 2001, at the behest of Pete Seeger, we promote Clearwater's mission to preserve and protect the Hudson River. Through educational activities and community involvement, we foster a spirit of environmental stewardship towards these precious natural resources.
Our Goals
Support the Hudson River through historic and environmental education.
Create an awareness about environmental issues and facilitate positive change through community effort.
Develop a youth counsel to engender a spirit of stewardship toward the environment in the hearts, minds and wills of our children

RFOC Activies Past, Present and Future
Quadricentennial: This year (2009), Rockland Friends of Clearwater plans to join with Riverfront communities in the year-long celebration to have fun and promote awareness of the river. Keep in touch for the River Day Plans for June 6th!
Festivals: RFOC takes an active part in the Great Hudson River Clearwater Revival held each year in June.
Environmental Education: Planning waterfront activities for students such as "Clearwater in the Classroom" and stream monitoring. The RFOC contributes to community clean up efforts such as "Keep Rockland Beautiful" and The "Great Hudson River Sweep".
Clearwater Sails: Climb aboard the sloop Clearwater for a 3-hour sail on the Hudson. This is a
wonderful opportunity for members and friends to get to know "America's Environmental Flagship." This event doubles as a fundraiser for our group.
Pot-Luck Socials: Informal gatherings held at members homes to plan future activities, talk, get to know each other, be social and to have a little bit of home-cooked fun.
Wacky Boat Race: A past favorite of Rockland residents was held at Nyack's Memorial Park.
